During the building festival at the Pastorie in Helchteren from the 22.04.24 to the 05.05.24 we set grounds for the project together with the community of Houthalen-Helchteren.
Throughout this period, we arrange a sequence of engagements and actions with the objective of collaboratively establishing a space that is designed by us and crafted for the community's benefit. By means of collaboration we make sure that everybody's needs and wishes are fulfilled and thus create a meaningful project.

A cosy get-together around a campfire, where we can dream ahead about the festival. There will be drinks and bites, marshmallows and a campfire.

Shakemaking. During this workshop you will learn how to make traditional roof tiles from wood logs, the roof tiles that will be used in our pavillion.
During our lunchbreak we will discuss how shakes are used in architecture, through a couple of examples and applications of shakes.

This workshop with Alejandro Haiek is intended for PhD students. It will seek new forms of correlation between social landscapes, ecosystem services, and post-industrial geographies, engaging with the agents as artisctic translations.

We are honored to host Jasper Van der Linden from BC materials, for an inspiring talk that unfolds the immerse potential of raw earth.
Taste, Feel, Smell, Watch and certainly Hear what durable materials have to offer. Get an intense affinity with geo- bio- and harvested materials while they're pulled out of their conventional 'build' environment. Expect a relaxing bath, a transcendental connection with other participants and the materials.
The daily path of the pastor, where he walked and prayed, becomes the path of the people of Helchteren. We will decorate stones together, all are welcome. With these stones we will then retrace the path into the grounds of the garden. Tracing a memory of the past in order to create a work of land art for the future.
We are excited to host a film night surrounding earth building in Morocco, one of the places where earth construction and craft are still very present.
